Seed of Hope Psychology tailors the assessment, treatment and individual client needs to evidence based treatments. The counselling approach is one of collaboratively working with the client in order to help individuals achieve their personal goals by embracing their skills, strengths and enhancing the meaning of their lives.

Cher draws from a number of evidence based psychological practices in her counselling approach, in particular Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trauma Informed Stabilisation Treatment and Mindfulness based approaches.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is based on an empirical scicence yet has a major emphasis on values, acceptance, forgiveness, compassion, and being present. The goal of this therapy is to create a rich meaningful life whilst accepting the pain that inevitably comes with it. It is through mindful action that empowers individuals to a fulfilling life. ACT does not focus on symptom reduction but achieves symptom reduction as a byproduct. This therapy engages an eclectic combination of values guided behavioural interventions, metaphors, mindfulness skills, and experiential exercises. Individuals are encouraged to no longer use coping strategies such as avoidance and are taught mindfulness skills as an effective way to become focused on the present. Research has shown effective results for ACT therapy with a wide range of conditions including depression, workplace stress, chronic pain, addiction, eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is directed at helping clients solve current problems and teaching practical skills to modify unhelpful patterns of thinking which results in a shift in thinking and behavior. CBT uses a variety of cognitive and behavioural strategies in identifying the interplay between our often automatic negative thoughts, emotions, and their relationship to body sensations and behaviours caused by individuals perception of situations and triggering events.  CBT is an evidence based treatment that achieves effective results with mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, addiction. CBT will help clients change their thinking and behaviour that will lead to long lasting improvements in their mood and life function.

Trauma Informed Stabilisation Treatment (TIST)

TIST was developed by Dr Janina Fisher to provide an integrated trauma-informed approach to heal the fragmented selves of trauma survivors (Fisher, 2017). TIST is based on the theoretical principles drawn from neuroscience trauma research, structural dissociation theory, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and ego state techniques. TIST has shown benefits for clients in transforming the relationship with themselves replacing shame and guilt with acceptance and compassion from the impacts of Complex PTSD, borderline personality, dissociative, addictions, eating disorders, and bipolar disorder.
